US President Joe Biden issued a statement on Tuesday welcoming Finland's membership to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Biden also mentioned Sweden, which applied to join NATO with Finland, but whose membership is waiting to be ratified by two member states.
Biden said, "I look forward to welcoming Sweden as a NATO member as soon as possible, and encourage Turkiye and Hungary to conclude their ratification processes without delay."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tweeted to congratulate Finland and the country's President Sauli Niinisto on joining the alliance.
Zelenskyy wrote, "NATO became the only effective security guarantee in the region amid Russian aggression."
