People in Japan have taken time to celebrate the "individuality and happiness of young people". They've commemorated the national holiday that falls on May 5 known as Children's Day. Families in the southwestern prefecture of Oita went to see a carp streamer-- a symbol of the holiday. Many visitors were surprised by its size, as it was 60 meters long. In Yamaguchi Prefecture, some 500 people tried to set a world record with Okonomiyaki, a kind of savory pancake. It is more than 100 meters across. The gigantic dish was later recognized as world's longest by Guinness World Records. In the country's east in Yamanashi Prefecture, people raced in rice paddies covered with water. One participant said he wanted to enjoy with his kid, but he enjoyed himself a little too much. The day is one of a string of national holidays in spring, and the last is on Tuesday. Expressways are expected to be crowded as people return en masse from their holiday destinations. Railways and airlines say congestion on Shinkansen bullet trains and flights will also reach its peak on Tuesday.
