Exactly one week has passed since 35 people were killed after a driver plowed his car into a crowd in southern China. The area remains off-limits, and police officers are maintaining their vigilance around the scene. Authorities appear to be wary of people mourning the victims, and of foreign media covering the scene. The incident, which occurred in Zhuhai, Guangdong Province on November 11, left 35 dead and more than 40 others wounded. Residents laid flowers and offered prayers in front of closed gates at the site of the incident. The flowers were later removed by someone who appeared to be a security officer. The same officer also forbade an NHK crew from filming the area. Some Hong Kong media have reported that police initially announced that the suspect was upset over the financial settlement of his divorce, but the information was later deleted. Concerns over mass attacks in public spaces are on the rise in China. A man went on a stabbing rampage in a school in the eastern province of Jiangsu on Saturday, killing eight people and injuring 17.
