The death toll from an explosion inside a coal mine in northern Turkey has risen to 41. The blast occurred on Friday beneath the northern town of Amasra. Local authorities say 41 people have been confirmed dead and 11 others are being treated in hospital. Footage on local media shows people huddled around the entrance to the mine, and rescued workers being rushed on stretchers to ambulances. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived at the scene on Saturday and said that he doesn't want to see deficiencies or unnecessary risk, adding that an investigation would reveal those responsible for the blast. In 2014, an explosion at a coal mine in the western Turkish town of Soma killed 301 people. The disaster sparked protests across the nation against Erdogan's government.
