Shinkansen bullet train services remain partly suspended Tuesday on three lines in Japan's capital and multiple prefectures due to a power outage.
The sections affected are Tokyo to Sendai on the Tohoku line, as well as Tokyo to Takasaki on the Hokuriku and Joetsu lines. The East Japan Railway Company announced services at those sections will be halted all day.
JR East says the stoppage is due to a power outage that began shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The company released a photo showing a power line dangling between Ueno and Omiya stations, disrupting operations.
The company sent a crew to restore service. But an employee of an affiliated company was electrocuted and another suffered burns. Both were taken to a hospital by ambulance. There is no word yet on either worker's condition.
JR East says it deeply apologizes for the inconvenience caused to many customers and says it will make every effort to resume operations from the first train on Wednesday.
