A railway operator in Ishikawa Prefecture has revived a sightseeing train service that had been suspended since the Noto Peninsula Earthquake on New Year's Day last year. Noto Railway resumed the service on Sunday between Anamizu and Nanao stations with 40 passengers on board. Passengers can enjoy the scenery while listening to a tour guide. As the massive quake damaged tourist spots, the operator had kept the sightseeing service suspended even after the railway resumed full train operations in April last year. Miyashita Safumi was a guide on the sightseeing train when the disaster hit. She was also aboard the train on Sunday. Miyashita told the passengers the quake occurred as the train was approaching Notonakajima Station and she had to hold on to the handrails to stay upright. She also said she led passengers to higher ground after a major tsunami warning was issued following the quake. A man from Anamizu Town who boarded the train with his child welcomed the resumption of the service as positive news for the local community. Miyashita said she wants many people to ride the train and she hopes that the experience will offer an opportunity to think about disaster management. The sightseeing train will make three round trips a day on weekends and national holidays. The service will be available until May 11, and between July 19 and August 31.
