Marcos said, "We will continue to pursue and defend our maritime interests and navigate towards a brighter and stronger new Philippines."
China reacted swiftly, with the foreign ministry saying it has summoned the Philippine Ambassador to lodge representations over the new laws.
Manila and Beijing have been increasingly at odds in the South China Sea as China's activities become more assertive in the region.
