N.Korea: Seoul will pay 'high price' for military drill NHK

North Korea has criticized South Korea's annual military drill, saying that Seoul will find out what a high price it will have to pay.

The mostly computer-simulated Taegeuk exercise is being held from Monday through Thursday based on the scenario of a nuclear and missile threat from Pyongyang.

North Korea denounced the drill in two commentaries issued on the website of its Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland on Tuesday.

It said that even though the exercise is computer simulated, its true aim is to complete preparations for a war of invasion.

The commentary indicated that retaliatory measures would be taken, saying that Seoul will clearly find out what a high price it will pay for its military imprudence.

South Korea has been conducting military maneuvers with US troops for four consecutive months. Last week, their air forces held the largest-scale exercise in 5 years and stepped up pressure on Pyongyang.

North Korea said it conducted military operations from Wednesday through Saturday to respond to the joint air drills. It announced on Monday that more than 80 ballistic missiles and other projectiles had been fired.

South Korean troops are on the alert for further provocations.
