A media outlet in Ukraine says the country is estimated to have lost control of more than 3,600 square kilometers of territory in 2024, with Russian forces seizing a number of settlements in the eastern regions of Donetsk and Kharkiv.
Militarnyi reported the estimation on Saturday, by analyzing a map provided by a local organization based on information from the front lines and other sources.
The report said Russian forces started to intensify their offensive last summer, and they are estimated to have taken 610 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in November alone.
Russia claimed last month that its troops seized about 4,500 square kilometers of Ukrainian territory in 2024.
Meanwhile, Russian forces continued their attacks on Ukraine on Saturday. Authorities in the northeastern region of Sumy said a Russian-guided bomb strike wounded 10 people, including two children.
