A major opposition party in Japan is set to draw up draft measures to prevent damage from dubious practices at host clubs that push female clients into heavy debt by charging high bills and eventual work in the sex industry.
The Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan plans to hold a meeting on Monday to hear from a non-profit organization that provides consultations to young people who have been victimized sexually. Officials from the National Police Agency will also attend.
There has been an increasing number of cases in which women were forced to provide sexual services to pay off their debt to host clubs through a pay-later mechanism.
Draft measures may include putting a ceiling on the amounts such clubs charge through the pay-later system, as well as thoroughly instructing them to provide itemized bills. It is said that bills that only show the total amount create trouble.
The opposition party also plans to urge the government to step up preventive measures, such as by making it known that female clients do not have to pay for services by hosts if they were found to engage in romance fraud that targets women who dream of dating men.
The party intends to consider calling for new legislation if necessary.
