1. A survey shows that approximately 70% of bear attacks on humans occur in areas where people live or work, particularly in the Tohoku region. 2. Between October 1st and October 23rd, 64 people have been injured by bears, with four fatalities, in 12 prefectures. The incidents occurred near houses, roads, farmland, and around food sources like rice paddies, mushrooms, chestnuts, or persimmon trees. 3. An expert from the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute, Onishi Naoki, advises people living in areas with frequent bear sightings to stay vigilant until December. He suggests avoiding walking early in the morning or using vehicles at night, staying away from potential food sources for bears, wearing helmets when entering bear habitats, carrying a bear bell, radio, and repellent spray, and giving up mountain mushroom and wild vegetable picking this year due to an increasing number of bear sightings.
