US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has congratulated Lai Ching-te on his victory in Taiwan&#039;s presidential election.
                
Blinken issued a statement on Saturday. It said, &quot;We also congratulate the Taiwan people for once again demonstrating the strength of their robust democratic system and electoral process.&quot;
                
The secretary of state noted that the US is &quot;committed to maintaining cross-Strait peace and stability, and the peaceful resolution of differences, free from coercion and pressure.&quot;
                
Blinken also said that the partnership between the American people and the people of Taiwan continues to broaden across economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties.
                
President Joe Biden was asked about the results of Taiwan&#039;s presidential election. He said the United States is &quot;not supporting&quot; the independence of Taiwan.
                
Biden is believed to have made the remark to stress that America is committed to its one-China policy.
