Senior diplomats from Japan and South Korea have agreed that the two countries will work to facilitate close communication at all levels. The head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, Funakoshi Takehiro, and South Korea's foreign ministry's director general for Asia and Pacific affairs, Seo Min-jung, held talks in Seoul on Friday. South Korea's Foreign Ministry said Funakoshi and Seo exchanged views on the direction of the development of bilateral ties following the Japan-South Korea summit in Tokyo last month. At the summit meeting, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol agreed to resume talks between their countries' foreign and defense ministries at an early date. The high-level strategic and security dialogues have been suspended for a long time. Friday's meeting between the senior diplomats highlights the two countries' efforts to strengthen their bilateral relations, and in turn their trilateral relations with the United States. Yoon is scheduled to visit Washington for summit talks with President Joe Biden in April.
