Ethnic Armenians accept ceasefire with Azerbaijan, Armenian state media says NHK

Ethnic Armenian forces in Azerbaijan's breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh say they have accepted a ceasefire agreement with Azerbaijan.

The Armenian state news agency says ethnic Armenians on Wednesday agreed to a ceasefire that includes the complete disarmament of their forces in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The deal comes a day after Azerbaijan launched what it called an anti-terrorist operation in Nagorno-Karabakh and used heavy artillery fire on Armenian positions there.

Military clashes last broke out between the two countries in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. Russia and the United States called for an immediate ceasefire, citing rising tension.
