Ethnic Armenian forces in Azerbaijan's breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh say they have accepted a ceasefire agreement with Azerbaijan. The Armenian state news agency says ethnic Armenians on Wednesday agreed to a ceasefire that includes the complete disarmament of their forces in Nagorno-Karabakh. The deal comes a day after Azerbaijan launched what it called an anti-terrorist operation in Nagorno-Karabakh and used heavy artillery fire on Armenian positions there. An Armenian human rights group says Azerbaijan's operation has killed 32 people, including seven civilians, and injured more than 200. Russia's state-run news agency says Azerbaijan's defense ministry has agreed to end the anti-terrorist operation. Military clashes last broke out between the two countries in Nagorno-Karabakh in 2020. Russia and the United States called for an immediate ceasefire, citing rising tension.
