Lavrov: Western nations trying to 'politicize' G20 summit NHK

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused Western nations of trying to "politicize" a draft declaration by leaders of the Group of 20 major economies in order to condemn Moscow.

He was speaking to reporters on Tuesday in Bali, Indonesia, where he is attending the G20 summit.

Lavrov said the energy measures taken by the United States and European nations have worsened the situation in developing countries.

He said Russia called on the West not to use this issue for political purposes.

Lavrov on the same day met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also visiting Bali for the G20 talks.

Lavrov expressed confidence that Russia and China will maintain their comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation.

He added that the two countries will be able to take advantage of new opportunities to elevate bilateral relations without limits.

Lavrov also told reporters that he had had short conversations with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the G20.

Lavrov said he told the two leaders that Ukraine is obstructing the negotiation process with Russia.
