N.Korean media hail 11th anniversary of Kim Jong Un's military leadership NHK

North Korea's state media have been praising leader Kim Jong Un to mark 11 years on Friday since he became the country's top military commander.

Friday's edition of the Rodong Sinmun newspaper contains a big article lauding Kim for completing the country's nuclear force.

He took the top position in December 2011 after the death of his father, Kim Jong Il.

The edition includes a photo of a Hwasong-17, North Korea's latest model of inter-continental ballistic missile.

The paper says Kim has helped the North's military become the most advanced force that can win in every battle.

It also praises Kim for rapidly advancing the country's nuclear and missile programs. The article says the country's newly developed powerful weapons have ensured the future well-being of its citizens.

State-run Korean Central Television has shown footage from the fourth day of the plenary meeting of the Workers' Party of Korea's Central Committee, held on Thursday.

It shows Kim talking with his aides and officials at sectional meetings and discussing defense plans for next year.

Earlier in the plenary meeting, Kim reportedly set "new key goals" to bolster his country's self-reliant defense capability for 2023. The year marks the third in the country's five-year defense plan. What Kim has called key goals may mean he intends to further develop his nuclear and missile programs.
