Tensions between Bangladesh and India have spiked in recent weeks after New Delhi denounced a series of attacks against minority Hindus in its neighbor. Protests and counterprotests continue in the two nations. In the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka last week thousands demonstrated against what they call "Indian aggression" against their country. That came after a Bangladesh consulate in Hindu-majority India was attacked earlier this month. Since Sheikh Hasina was ousted as Bangladesh's prime minister in August, India has made repeated allegations of persecution against minority Hindus in Muslim-majority Bangladesh. Dhaka rejects these claims. No end seems in sight to the tit-for-tat protests. On Thursday, members of a Hindu group in India's northern city of Chandigarh marched in a rally against Bangladesh's interim leader, Muhammad Yunus. They burned an effigy of the Nobel peace laureate, whom they accuse of not cracking down on violent attacks against Hindus.
