Arrangements are underway for Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to visit Cambodia, Indonesia and Thailand in mid-November.

Kishida is planning to make the tour if his schedule allows during the current Diet session. He intends to attend summit meetings of the Group of 20 and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Kishida is expected to stress the importance of freedom and the rule of law, as Russia continues its invasion of Ukraine and threatens to use nuclear weapons.

He is likely to urge other countries to work together to continue to support Ukraine and impose sanctions against Russia.

Kishida is also expected to call for cooperation in maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has begun a third term as leader of the ruling Community Party, has indicated he will not rule out the use of force to achieve what he calls the reunification of Taiwan.

Kishida will also likely ask for international cooperation in dealing with soaring energy prices and securing a stable supply of food.
