A Singaporean minister said servers used in a fraud case may have contained chips from US chipmaker Nvidia. Local media report the case is linked to the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek&#039;s alleged acquisition of advanced chips.
        
                    
                  
Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam made the announcement on Monday, after authorities last week charged three men in a fraud case for allegedly misleading suppliers.
        
                    
                  
He said the case concerned servers with chips embedded in them coming into Singapore and then being sent to Malaysia.
        
                    
                  
Shanmugam added that servers involved in the case were provided by some US server suppliers before being sent to Malaysia. But he noted that authorities don&#039;t know at this point if the final destination for the servers was Malaysia.
        
                    
                  
He said that Singapore is working with US and Malaysian authorities.
        
                    
                  
Reports say US officials are investigating whether DeepSeek evaded US export restrictions and obtained Nvidia semiconductors through Singapore.
        
                    
                  
In late January, DeepSeek drew global attention when it said it had developed a powerful generative AI model at low cost.
