UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is aiming to provide 1 billion dollars to quake-stricken Turkey over a three-month period, and has urged the international community to fully fund the aid package. Guterres said on Thursday that the funds will help 5.2 million people, and boost support for government-led relief efforts in a number of areas, including food security, protection, education, water and shelter. He said people are suffering and there is no time to lose. The UN chief said Turkey is home to the largest number of refugees in the world and has shown enormous generosity to its Syrian neighbors for years. He said now is the time for the world to support the people of Turkey. On Tuesday, the UN launched a 397-million-dollar appeal to help survivors of the quake in Syria over a three-month period.
