Kyiv under attack as Putin addresses security agents NHK

Russia is keeping up its assault on Ukraine's power grid -- unleashing Iranian-made drones on targets in Kyiv and elsewhere. Civilians face a cold and uncertain holiday season, as Russia's President urged his agents to tighten control.

Ukraine's air force says, from Sunday through Monday, it shot down 30 drones. Five made it through. Kyiv's governor reported three injuries and more blackouts.

The US think-tank The Institute for the Study of War quoted Ukrainian assessments that the Russians can make another three or four rounds of strikes... before they need to acquire more missiles.

In recent months, Ukraine's military has undone some of Moscow's gains.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said the situation in four unilaterally annexed areas of Ukraine... has grown extremely difficult.

He called on his counterintelligence agencies, including those tied to the military, to step up surveillance and block spies, traitors and disruptive forces.
