Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says it is important to his country that China does not support Russia in its war with Ukraine.

German newspaper Die Welt ran an interview with Zelenskyy on Monday.

He also said he wants China to be on Ukraine's side but that he believes this is difficult at the moment. He said if China allies with Russia there will be a world war, and that he thinks China is aware of this.

The president noted that he does not see any sign of China providing military support to Russia.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said earlier that he told China's top diplomat Wang Yi on Saturday about Washington's growing concern that China was considering "lethal support" to Russia.
