Japanese technology company Fujitsu has indicated it will consider compensating victims of a scandal at the British Post Office. Hundreds of postal workers were wrongly prosecuted for embezzlement and other charges due to faulty accounting software supplied by Fujitsu.
Fujitsu Chief Financial Officer Isobe Takeshi on Wednesday repeated company apologies for the scandal.
The company said it will await the findings of an independent public inquiry into the matter in the UK before making a decision on compensation.
More than 700 post office workers were prosecuted from 1999 to 2015 when the faulty software mistakenly showed money was missing from their branches.
In 2019, a UK court ruled in favor of a group of postal managers who filed a lawsuit claiming the software was flawed. A recent British TV drama reignited criticism against Fujitsu over the scandal.
