Cambodian PM set to hand over power to son NHK

Cambodia's parliament has opened following July's general election. Hun Manet is now on the brink of taking over from his father as prime minister.

He will likely become leader on Tuesday. A royal decree published earlier this month says he's already approved to succeed Hun Sen, who has been in power for almost 40 years.

Current cabinet ministers and senior ruling party members, most now in their 60s and 70s, are also expected to give up their seats to their children.

The outgoing leader will not join the new cabinet. But he will stay on as the influential leader of the People's Party.

The July election prompted criticism after the main opposition party was banned from running.
