South Korea's defense ministry says it will take part in an international fleet review in Japan next month for the first time in seven years. The ministry decided to accept Japan's invitation to the review on Thursday. It says South Korea will send a logistic supporting ship. The ministry said it considered with "the utmost priority the security implications of our Navy's participation, given the grave security situation surrounding the Korean Peninsula, which was caused by the recent series of North Korea's provocations." The review is scheduled for November 6 in Sagami Bay, off Kanagawa Prefecture, southwest of Tokyo. Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force holds a fleet review about every three years. This year's event would mark the 70th anniversary of the MSDF's founding. The Japanese government did not invite the South's Navy to the last review in 2019, when bilateral relations worsened.
