Providing aid to survivors has been especially hard in Northwest Syria as the civil war in the country continues. But officials are hoping to speed up deliveries with newly opened routes. The International Organization for Migration says 11 trucks carrying tents, mattresses, blankets and other supplies were able to enter Syria Tuesday. They came from Turkey through one of two additional border crossings -- routes the organization says are essential. Relief teams were previously limited to just one in areas controlled by anti-government forces. The country's president says the two routes will stay open for three months and accept support through UN agencies. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said, "The human suffering from this epic natural disaster should not be made even worse by man-made obstacles." Guterres announced that the United Nations will provide about 400 million dollars in aid over the next three months to Syria. He is calling on the international community to provide more. Guterres says the UN is also working on a new aid package for Turkey.
