A drill for capturing bears has been held at a camp of Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force in Akita Prefecture.
The northern prefecture has confirmed three deaths and 53 injuries in bear attacks from April 1 to Wednesday. Prefectural and GSDF officials are discussing details of how to work together.
GSDF personnel, prefectural employees and members of the local hunting association took part in Thursday's drill at the camp in Akita City.
The GSDF said its own personnel, prefectural workers and hunters confirmed how to set up bear traps.
The personnel have also learned what they should do when they encounter the animals.
