A Shinkansen bullet train that was stranded for 12 hours from Sunday night in Akita Prefecture due to a power failure is up and running again. The operator says the mishap during high traffic season affected more than 3,600 people.
                
The East Japan Railway company says the Komachi No. 43 train that runs through northeastern Japan had about 260 passengers on board.
                
The train stopped when heating and power sources went down at around 10:35 p.m. on Sunday.
                
The railway company arranged to have taxis take the passengers to local stations. There have been no reports of health problems.
                
One of the passengers said: &quot;The heater was working at first, but it gradually became cold. The toilets were unusable. It&#039;s the first time something like this has happened, so I&#039;m surprised.&quot;
                
The following Shinkansen, Komachi No. 45, also stopped in Akita Prefecture but was not affected by a power outage. Its electricity and heating were working, and passengers remained inside.
                
A total of 14 trains were cancelled due to the trouble. But the operator says Shinkansen service is now running as scheduled since its resumption around 10:30 a.m.
