Police have rearrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving resulting in death and hit-and-run in a fatal incident in Tokyo's Adachi Ward last month. On November 24, Yokoo Yusuke drove a car into pedestrians and caused a chain-reaction collision involving eight vehicles that killed a man and a woman and injured 12 others. He was later arrested on suspicion of stealing the vehicle from a car dealership. Tokyo Metropolitan Police say Yokoo allegedly ignored a red light and sped into an intersection at about 76 kilometers per hour. They believe he then struck and killed a woman who was crossing at a crosswalk and fled the scene. The victim was 28-year-old Gladys Grace Rotaquio Testado, a Philippine national. Yokoo was rearrested on Monday. The 37-year-old suspect has reportedly told police that he fled because he was being chased by a patrol car with its siren sounding and did not want to get caught. He also reportedly said his car swerved to the left just before the crosswalk and struck a woman and a man. Police say the suspect is remaining silent regarding the latest charges. They initially withheld the suspect's name, citing the need to carefully assess his criminal responsibility. But they say they made the decision to disclose his identity after comprehensively determining that he was able to communicate with officers without difficulty, among other factors.
