US Steel thanks Trump for interest in company's future NHK

US Steel has thanked US President Donald Trump for his interest in the company's future amid an attempted takeover deal by Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel.

US Steel posted a photo on social media of CEO David Burritt and Trump on Saturday. The post read, "Thank you, President Trump, for your interest in a thriving future for US Steel."

US media outlets have reported that Trump and Burritt met at the White House on Thursday ahead of the summit between the leaders of the US and Japan.

Trump told a news conference after the summit that Nippon Steel agreed to invest heavily in US Steel, as opposed to owning it.
