Home appliance shipments in Japan drop for 2nd month NHK

The value of Japan's domestic home appliance shipments fell for a second straight month in August.
Industry officials cited lower consumer demand due to higher prices of goods.

The Japan Electrical Manufacturers' Association says overall shipments declined 6.2 percent last month from a year earlier. Those of washing machines fell 15.1 percent and air conditioners dropped 4.1 percent.

Shipments of personal care devices bucked the trend. Electric shavers jumped by 34.5 percent, and hair dryers rose 13.5 percent.

The demand for grooming products comes as people go out more often after the lifting of all anti-coronavirus restrictions in Japan.
