A labor standards office in western Japan has advised the operator of the Takarazuka Revue musical theater to correct its practices over the death of one of its performers.
Hankyu Corporation on Friday revealed it received the recommendation from the labor standards inspection office in Hyogo Prefecture.
The move came after the all-female theater admitted in March that the 25-year-old performer who died last September was overworked and was harassed by senior members and others. She was found dead in Takarazuka City, in a suspected suicide.
The troupe apologized to her family, and announced measures to prevent a recurrence, including reviews of its rehearsal schedules.
Local labor standards inspectors have conducted onsite investigations of the troupe since November.
Hankyu Corporation says it is examining the details of the recommendation, adding it will release them later. The company said in a statement it will continue efforts to reform the theater.
