Candidates for South Korea's presidential election on June 3 began registering their entries on Saturday. The representative for the main opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-myung, and the leader of New Reform Party, Lee Jun-seok, have put down their names. The ruling People Power Party, on the other hand, dropped the candidate it picked in a party convention last week, and restarted its nomination process. The party held an emergency news conference and announced it would revoke its choice of former Employment and Labor Minister Kim Moon-soo. The party is believed to be preparing to select former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo as its new candidate. Han announced his candidacy as an independent. The ruling party's move comes as members call for a unified candidate to challenge Lee Jae-myung, who has been performing well in opinion polls. Kim strongly opposes the party's decision, which he calls unjust. Attention is on what action Kim will take before registration closes on Sunday.
