No signs of truce as Russia launches drone attacks on Ukraine NHK

Russia launched drone attacks across Ukraine on Monday, ignoring calls for a 30-day ceasefire by four major European powers and Ukraine.

Kyiv and its allies urged Moscow on Saturday to commit to an unconditional ceasefire on land, air, and at sea for at least 30 days, starting Monday.

But the Ukrainian Air Force announced the "enemy" attacked with 108 unmanned aerial vehicles across Ukraine between late Sunday and early Monday, of which 55 were shot down.

Local authorities also reported that drone attacks in the Sumy region in northeastern Ukraine before noon on Monday left one dead and three others injured.

The attacks come as Russia's President Vladimir Putin on Sunday suggested holding direct negotiations with Ukraine without preconditions in the Turkish city of Istanbul on Thursday.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded by asking Russia to agree to a ceasefire from Monday.

He added: "I will be in Turkey this Thursday and I expect Putin to come to Turkey as well. We are ready to talk, to end this war."
