NHK has learned that the Japanese government had informed Russia in advance about Prime Minister Kishida Fumio&#039;s visit to Ukraine.
                
Kishida arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday through Poland after his visit to India without any public announcement in advance. He met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the capital.
                
Japanese government sources say Tokyo gave Moscow prior notice about Kishida&#039;s visit to Ukraine through diplomatic channels.
                
Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said at the Diet on Wednesday that the Ukrainian government has taken full responsibility for measures to ensure the prime minister&#039;s safety during the visit.
                
Matsuno also explained that those measures include the acquisition of information about Russian military attacks, as well as a possible evacuation based on such information.
                
Foreign Ministry press secretary Ono Hikariko told reporters on Wednesday that officials from the Prime Minister&#039;s Office and the Foreign Ministry accompanied Kishida for his Ukraine visit.
                
She said the number of officials was minimized in light of security measures in Ukraine and other foreign leaders&#039; past visits to Kyiv.
                
Ono also said all possible measures were taken to ensure safety after careful coordination with the Ukrainian government. She added that information sharing on the visit was strictly limited.
                
Meanwhile, the ruling and opposition camps agreed that Kishida will report on his Ukraine visit at a plenary session of the Lower House and answer questions from lawmakers on Friday after returning home.
                
In the Upper House, the ruling and opposition parties are in discussions to have Kishida report on his visit on Monday.
