Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum says she will announce retaliatory measures on Sunday against the latest tariff imposed by the United States on imports from her country.

The White House said in a statement on Monday that the Mexican government has afforded &quot;safe havens for the cartels to engage in the manufacturing and transportation of dangerous narcotics.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Sheinbaum said on Tuesday that &quot;the White House had released an offensive, defamatory, and unsubstantiated statement about the Mexican government,&quot; which Mexico categorically denies and condemns.
        
                    
                  
She noted that measures by her government have substantially reduced seizures of fentanyl in the US that originated from Mexico.
        
                    
                  
Sheinbaum said there is &quot;no motive, reason or justification&quot; that supports the US government&#039;s decision to impose the latest tariff.
        
                    
                  
She added that the unilateral decision of the US affects national and foreign companies operating in Mexico, as well as its people.
        
                    
                  
She said Mexico will announce tariff and non-tariff measures.
        
                    
                  
Sheinbaum said she expects to hold telephone talks with US President Donald Trump as early as Thursday.
