California's Lake Shasta rises from severe-drought levels in stunning before and after images List Wire staff Over one year later: 114% above the historical average A view of Lake Shasta with snow-capped Mt. Shasta in the background on Monday, Jan. 15, 2024. Recent rains continue filling up California's largest reservoir. Lake Shasta, the largest reservoir in California, has reached a milestone water level after storms in the state have saturated the area, with nearly 50 inches of rain falling in the Shasta Damn surroundings since October 2023. Now, as we move along in Summer 2024, additional storms in April and May increased water levels, bringing the measurement to over 98% full, well above the historical average. While the drier months ahead are expected to drop the current level, there has been quite an impressive and dramatic change when looking at the timeline of the drought-riddled scene from just two years ago to now.
