Voters in the United States are going to the polls on Tuesday to vote in the midterm elections. President Joe Biden, a Democrat, and Donald Trump, his Republican predecessor, have made last-minute campaign efforts to help their parties win control of Congress.

Midterm elections take place every four years halfway through the president's quadrennial term. This year, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the Senate's 100 seats will be contested.

Democrats currently control both the House and Senate. Pre-election polls favor Republicans to win a majority in the House, while control of the Senate is seen as up for grabs.

Speaking at a rally held in the state of Maryland on Monday evening, Biden urged voters to cast ballots for the Democratic Party, saying "our democracy is at risk." He warned that many of the Republican candidates haven't accepted the outcome of the 2020 presidential election.

Meanwhile, Trump gave a speech in the battleground state of Ohio on Monday evening.

Trump blamed the Biden administration for causing record levels of inflation. He said, "If you want to stop the destruction of our country and save the American dream then tomorrow you must vote Republican."

The elections are seen as a test of Trump's influence on the Republican Party. It is expected he will soon announce his 2024 presidential bid. Local media reports say Trump has endorsed more than 200 candidates in the midterm elections.
