US media: Iran could launch retaliatory attack against Israel in days NHK

The US newspaper The Wall Street Journal on Monday quoted American officials as saying that Iran is moving missile launchers and conducting military drills. The officials reportedly suggest that Iran is preparing for an attack against Israel in the coming days.

Iran has blamed Israel for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last Wednesday.

The country has vowed revenge, and there are fears that Iran-backed militia could join the retaliatory attack.

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant disclosed on Monday that he met the visiting commander of US Central Command, and discussed the coordination of defense activities.

Meanwhile, Iran's state-run television posted on its English website an article explaining the country's latest weapons.

The article suggests that cutting-edge missiles, which were not used to avenge the Israeli attack in April on the Iranian Embassy in Syria, could be used in the retaliatory attack. It also raises the possibility that more so-called suicide drones could be used this time.

Wednesday marks 10 months since the start of the Israeli-Hamas conflict in Gaza.

Israeli forces announced on Tuesday that they killed about 45 Hamas fighters over the past day in their ongoing offensive.

Health authorities in Gaza said the death toll has reached 39,623.
