Two Hanukkah ceremonies in New York have highlighted the divide on how Jewish people in the city view the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Gaza Strip. The traditional Jewish festival began on Thursday. The custom is to light a new candle for eight nights. Ceremonies to light the first one were held near Central Park. Applause erupted at one ceremony when its organizer said, "We do not negotiate with terrorists. We are going to clean up Gaza. We are going to win this war with God's help." About 800 meters away people at another ceremony called for a ceasefire. One participant said Gaza's ongoing destruction will not lead to a better future for Israel or Palestine. He said the way forward is through a ceasefire and finding a solution that treats every life with respect, with no siege or occupation.
