People are urged to remain vigilant, as the storm is moving slowly and could have prolonged effects.

The Japan Meteorological Agency estimates that as of 9 p.m. on Saturday, Khanun was slowly moving east over waters 50 kilometers west of Kagoshima's Tokunoshima Island.

People should be on guard against strong gusts, high waves, and storm surges through Sunday.

Bands of active rain clouds could develop in Okinawa and Amami through Sunday and in southern Kyushu from Sunday morning onwards. Authorities are urging caution against heavy rain.
