A storm is once again approaching Okinawa's main island region and the Amami region of Kagoshima Prefecture in southwestern Japan. People are urged to remain vigilant, as the storm is moving slowly and could have prolonged effects. The Japan Meteorological Agency estimates that as of 9 p.m. on Saturday, Khanun was slowly moving east over waters 50 kilometers west of Kagoshima's Tokunoshima Island. People should be on guard against strong gusts, high waves, and storm surges through Sunday. Bands of active rain clouds could develop in Okinawa and Amami through Sunday and in southern Kyushu from Sunday morning onwards. Authorities are urging caution against heavy rain. The waters off Okinawa and Amami will be extremely rough through Sunday. High waves and storm surges could cause flooding in the Amami region through Sunday. Even slight rain or winds could heighten the risk of disaster in Okinawa and Amami, which have been hit hard by the early approach.
