Japan's government has pledged about 27 million dollars in emergency humanitarian aid for Turkey and Syria, which were hit by devastating earthquakes last week. Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa told reporters on Thursday that the aid will be delivered to both countries through the World Food Programme and Japanese non-governmental organizations. He said officials are working out the details of the package. Hayashi said Japan has been doing its utmost to send rescue crews and aid supplies to the region, based on its experience of earthquakes and other disasters. He says Tokyo will continue to act quickly and offer support in whatever way necessary to meet people's needs.
