A gunman has opened fire at a university in the Czech Republic, leaving 14 people dead and 25 wounded. The authorities say the shooting was not connected to terrorism.

The incident occurred at Charles University in central Prague on Thursday afternoon.

The attacker is believed to be a 24-year-old student at the university. He was confirmed dead on the campus.

His father was also found dead in their home outside Prague earlier in the day.

Police are trying to determine the motive, and whether the father's death was linked to the shooting.

The university is located near Prague's Old Town, home to historic structures such as Charles Bridge.

The area is usually crowded with tourists, students and others in the run-up to Christmas. It was reportedly bustling with people on the day of the bloodshed.
