A group of retired performers who used to be with a scandal-ridden Japanese talent agency have held an event to discuss ways to stamp out child sex abuse.
                
The five people allege they were sexually abused by the late founder of the talent agency previously known as Johnny &amp; Associates, Johnny Kitagawa. They have launched an organization to work for the elimination of sexual violence against children.
                
More than one hundred people took part in the event in Tokyo&#039;s Shinjuku Ward on Saturday.
                
Four experts spoke about sexual assaults and the importance of sex education.
                
Lawyer Kamitani Sakura said the criminal law that was amended last year includes tougher laws against sexual crimes.
                
She said there is a limit to what the law can do to crack down on sexual abusers and that society needs to create an environment in which children can be aware they are being victimized and take the case to court.
                
The experts stressed the need to review sex education in schools.
                
The former performers said if they were more aware about sex and sexual abuse at the time, they could have prevented what happened.
                
A participant in her 60s said she was glad the former Johnny &amp; Associates members had spoken out about their abuse and shed light on the problem. She said she wants to support their activities.
                
One of the organizing members, Nihongi Akimasa, said they may never be able to forget what had happened to them, even if they are compensated. He said by continuing the group&#039;s activity, he hopes more people will become aware of the problem.
