1. Japan's Imperial family (Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko) visited Nagasaki from September 9 to 11, 2025. - They paid tribute to the war dead at the Nagasaki Peace Park, bowing and offering flowers at a cenotaph for bomb victims. - They also visited the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, where they viewed a diorama of the atomic blast's impact. 2. The Imperial family met with four atomic bomb survivors (hibakusha) and two young people who relate stories of the bombing on their behalf. - Emperor Naruhito consoled one survivor exposed to radiation at age 4, a co-chair of Nihon Hidankyo (an organization representing hibakusha). - The family listened intently as a 101-year-old survivor recounted her loss during the bombing. 3. On Saturday, they plan to visit a nursing care home for atomic bomb survivors and attend the opening ceremony of the National Cultural Festival on Sunday. This is their first visit to Nagasaki since Emperor Naruhito ascended the throne and the first ever for Princess Aiko. In 2025, the Emperor and Empress have been marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two by visiting symbolic sites from the war.
