A heat wave is affecting wide areas of Japan. Weather officials are urging people to take care to avoid heatstroke. The Meteorological Agency says a high-pressure system hovered over regions from western to northern Japan on Monday. The daytime high reached 35.4 degrees Celsius in Gujo City and 35 degrees in Ibigawa Town, both in the central prefecture of Gifu. Central Tokyo and Osaka City in western Japan both saw the mercury reach 32.2 degrees. The sweltering heat is expected to continue on Tuesday, mainly in western Japan. A daytime high of 37 degrees is forecast for Kyoto City, with 35 degrees or higher expected for various locations in western and central Japan. Weather officials are calling on people to be careful about heatstroke. They recommend staying hydrated and using air conditioners.
