Conversation: Japanese living in Philippines describes extent of damage by deadly quake NHK

A: Hey there! Did you hear about what's going on back home?

B: No, not really, what happened?

A: Well, it's bad news... There was a big earthquake in the northern part of Cebu Island. The authorities confirmed 69 deaths already. It's tragic.

B: Oh my goodness! I hope everyone is safe... Is Cebu City okay?

A: Not really, Yuma-san who lives there visited a friend in Bogo and saw many buildings collapsed. Even new buildings toppled and old ones too. He took footage of a major hamburger chain store building tilted and another building's outer walls reduced to rubble.

B: That sounds terrible! I hope people are being treated well...

A: Yeah, he said he saw people being treated in tents set up in a hospital parking lot. The Philippine Coast Guard sent medical staff and aid to the area already, but full-scale rescue operations are ongoing.

B: This is really sad... I hope things get better soon. Let's keep them in our prayers.
