Japan's Meteorological Agency has issued an avalanche advisory for snowy regions along the Sea of Japan coast due to unseasonably high temperatures. Temperatures rose much higher than usual on Friday, especially in the northern regions of Hokkaido and Tohoku. Daytime temperatures reached 14.9 degrees Celsius at Niigata Airport, 14 degrees in Yurihonjo City in Akita Prefecture and 12.5 degrees in Hirosaki City in Aomori Prefecture. As of 5 p.m., temperatures were the highest on record for January at 75 observation points. Warm weather with chances of rain is forecast for Saturday. The agency is urging caution against possible avalanches for wide areas from northern to western Japan.
